Full Fathom Five is a song from Shakespeare’s play The Tempest, the most musical of his plays. It is sung by Ariel, a spirit, to confuse and frightened Ferdinand, son to the King of Naples, who has just been shipwrecked.
Shaw’s dedication is To Sir W.H. Hadow, who was a leading educational reformer and musicologist.
