Mordaunt Currie was a poet and English baronet who lived in Essex.
The song is dedicated To George Parker , a professional singer who was well known and worked with the BBC. He was said to be John Ireland’s favourite singer.
Parker knew Shaw well, and wrote Shaw’s obituary for the Royal School of Church Music.
